Obituary

Mr. Tommy Joe Meridith was born on Sunday, August 8, 1937, son of the late Thomas W. and Goldie M. Keel Meridith. Mr. Meridith died Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Ark., the age of 71 years 8 months and 7 days. He was born and reared in Trumann and had lived in California before moving back to Trumann 10 years ago. He was a factory worker. Mr. Meridith was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Meridith, two sisters, Shirley Meridith and Pauline Meridith Coker, and one sister, June Meridith Whitmire who passed away on April 16th; and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lorenda Qualls Meridith of the home; one step-daughter, Melissa Gardner Allen of Trumann; one step-son, Eddie Weems of Trumann; one sister, Diana Sutterfield of Jonesboro; one brother, Jerry Meridith of Flintville, TN; and four grandchildren, Latisha Weems, Hanna Weems, Gage Allen and Dakota Allen. Joint memorial services with his sister, June Meridith Whitmire will be Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. Bobby Watts officiating. Burial will be private. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Hunt, Bill Teague and Harold D. Smithson. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. "Gypsy -I was thoroughly shocked to hear about Tom. I don't get the paper, so I had not known of his passing until Tommye at the Cafe told me.Although I had only know Tom since moving back to Trumann when Mom's health started getting poor, I really liked him and our visits there at Main Street. He was warm, funny and down-to-earth. It was always a treat for me to join him, or you and him, or Harold and him to discuss the state of the world or Trumann. His passing will leave a true void in the hearts of all who knew him. I am just thankful that I did have a chance to get acquaint with him and enjoy his company there in the front booth at Main Street.
