"Farewell my Brother, you will be missed but never forgotten.Les and I got to know each other back in 1975, we were both assigned to Signal Company, 5th Special Forces Group, Les and I both had prior service overseas, Les in Viet Nam and mine in Europe. Being in the Army in the late 60’s early 70’s was not popular with the media or the American public back then. I think we both came back into the Army, because after serving then returning back to civilian life, we missed being around our brothers. It took men and women with integrity, conviction and strength of character to serve in a profession that was maligned by a very vocal group of the American public. But it was that adversity that made our bond so much stronger. I wasn’t the best or the brightest, but I loved being around others who were, Les was one of the best and the brightest, and I was proud to call him my friend. Les and I both saw the notice on the Company Bulletin Board about Army Flight School. We filled our packets and applied. Les got picked up in 1977 and I followed him in 1979. While we both became UH-1H “Huey” Instructor Pilots, our paths rarely crossed, but the Army Brotherhood is small and we tracked each other’s careers. The impact that Les had on my life is immeasurable, but not because of our love of the Army. Les introduced me to the love of my life, my wife. So if for no other reason I think of Les every single day, and thank God for the love that Les brought into my life. I never vocalized to Les what he meant to me. I think he would have played it down or got embarrassed, but I am pretty sure he knew. I regret that I never took the time to properly thank him.I would encourage everyone to not let another day pass, without telling those around you how much you love them. Never assume that they know, and even if they know speaking the words out loud means so much. Love is not something that we create or collect. Love is a gift from God that is meant to be given freely and shared. The more you give the more you will receive. As Memorial Day approaches, I am reminded that all of our Veterans gave some and some gave their all.God Bless and God Speed my Brother you will be never be forgotten.Chuck and Darlene Gehring

"I always liked Leslie. He was a nice guy. I only saw him a couple to times since we graduated from high school but I thought he always remained the "good guy" that I remembered from our school days. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Les, you done your duty for us all.
