Obituary
Ruth Nettie Smith of Trumann departed this life on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 3 days. She was born Wednesday, July 19, 1933 in St. Louis and lived in the Trumann area for over 45 years. She was a housewife and a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harold Smith; one son, William E. Smith, Sr.; one grandson, William E. Smith, Jr; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella E. Veal; 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 son-in-law, Kenny Northcott and her parents, Frank and Marie Lair Benz.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Larry) Bailey of Barlett, TN, Joanna Northcott of Wynne, AR and Brenda (Frank) Russell of Jonesboro, AR; two sons, David (Debra) Smith of Byhalia, MS and Joseph (Gail) Smith of Crestview, FL; three sisters, Evelyn Gaines of Olive Branch, MS, Ethel Harrison of La Porte, IN and Mary Lutman of Herculaneum, MO; Fiancé, Walter Marvel of Trumann; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland, AR.
The family request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
In compliance with COVID-19 restrictions, face masks or other facial covering is optional and social distancing will be required.
