Obituary
James Wayne “Bo” Hickey of Trumann, departed this life Tuesday, June 28th 2022 at his residence at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 23 days. He was born Sunday, February 5th 1956 in Trumann and lived most of his lifetime in the Bay and Trumann area. He graduated from Bay High School in 1974 and was of Baptist faith. Big Bo was a retired general contractor and was the fleet mechanic at Delta EMS Ambulance Service in Trumann. In his younger years, he served his community as a police officer with the Trumann Police Department, later becoming a deputy sheriff with the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office.
Big Bo never met a stranger. He would make his rounds each day starting at the ambulance base, then to Quality Farm, O’Reilly’s, and back to the base. He was always willing to share his wisdom or lend a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed working on old automobiles, building his gyrocopters, and was the best fisherman around. His family was his heart and he loved spending time with his granddaughter Olivia and his son Bo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Marie Hickey, and one brother, Michael Hickey.
He is survived by one brother, Steve (Vickie) Hickey of Bay; one sister, Patricia Smith of Bay; one son, James Wayne “Bo” Hickey II (Jade) of Trumann; one granddaughter, Olivia Hickey of Bay; two bonus granddaughters, Marlena Hipsher of Bay and Kayla Huntley (D.J.) of Harrisburg; and his best friend, Shannon Smith of Trumann.
Family will receive friends to celebrate the life of Big Bo at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5th at Northeast Arkansas Baptist Church, 601 Flossie Dr. in Trumann, AR. Services will begin at 6 p.m. with Brother John Dillinger officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6th at Bolivar Cemetery in Harrisburg, AR, with the procession leaving Thompson's Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.
Pallbearers include John Cook, Dale Parker, Jeremy Winkles, Jason Vick, Paul Keith, and Haley Latham. Honorary Pallbearers are Shannon Smith, Greg Green, Dakota McGee, Tim Easter, Greg Haner, Chris Burton, and employees of Delta EMS Ambulance Service.
