Obituary
Vera Dungan of Trumann, departed this life and was called to her heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at her home at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 3 days. She was born Saturday, June 9, 1962 in Atlanta, GA to the late Wells and Dora Carr Dungan. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with friends in Jonesboro and was a member of “In His Footsteps” mission group and traveled to many places helping rebuild torn homes back together. She spent her youth school years in Atlanta, then in junior high in 1976 moved with her family to Trumann, Arkansas where her father took over the family business. In 1981 she graduated from Trumann High School, she received an associate degree from Arkansas State University. Loved playing tennis, traveling and going to the cabin on Spring River in Hardy, Ark. Vera enjoyed volleyball in league play and occasional mud volleyball tournament with friends. In addition to traveling she enjoyed shopping, going to concerts and movies and also enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music. Mrs. Dungan also loved watching Monday night wrestling with her mother Dora, loved to read all kinds of books, and she loved to benge watch the t.v. show Law and Order. In addition to playing tennis, she enjoyed watching professional tennis on t.v. and even took trips with friends to the U.S. Open in New York and Wimbledon in London. Vera’s favorite color was green, but purple ran a close second. She loved flowers of all kinds and even worked at a local flower shop. Vera enjoyed her many years of work and service at the dental offices of Dr. Vick Stepka, Dr. John Sanford and Dr. Thomas Isbell. She had fond memories and lasting friendship throughout the years at the dental practices. She loved her family and many many friends and will be greatly missed. She was very generous with her time, talent and treasures. Vera volunteer every year for the annual Thanksgiving meals. Vera left behind and will be greatly missed by many friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas (Claudia) Dungan of Edinburgh, Scotland and nephew, Max S. Dungan. Aunt and uncles on her mother’s side, Marlene (Ronald) Bishop, Guy (Hilda) Carr, Terry (Rita) Carr and Bobby R. Carr; aunts and uncles on her father’s side, Tracie Dungan and Tammie (Ronnie) Harper, Mike (Effie) Dungan and Gary (Nancy) Dungan. She was survived by numerous cousins. Vera was also God Mother to Leslie Lawson, Lacey Lawson Hall and Lucas Lawson.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, November 22nd from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Service will follow with Rev. Michael Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro, AR.
