Mrs. Shirley E. Upton of Jonesboro died Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the family residence in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 13 days. She was born Friday, April 18, 1941 in Jonesboro, Ark., and had lived most of her lifetime in the Jonesboro area. She was a housewife and of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Upton; 2 sons, George Randal Smith and Lester Charles Smith; one great-granddaughter, Madeline Vanoven; 3 brothers, 1 sister, and her parents Lester and Myrtle Hamby Butler. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Hickey of Hardy, Ark., Kinda (Michael) Vanoven of Evening Shade, Ark., and Hallie (Junior) Crist of Trumann, Ark; two sons, Richard (Arleen) Smith of Harrisburg, Ark., and Billy (Edna) Smith of Beach Grove, Ark; 19 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann with Bro. Chase Smith officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann, Ark. An online registry book can be signed at thompsonfuneralhome.net.
