I would like to extend my condolences to the Smithson family. I just recently learned of J.W.'s passing and am deeply saddened. I am a CNA and had known him for years. I have many fond memories of him and he always made my day.

To the Smithson family. Mr. J.W. called on my daddy at Carter and Pegg (C & P) Grocery in the 1960s as a sales Rep with Reelfoot. The Reelfoot truck from Union City, Tennessee delivered twice a week. We always order 2 and sometimes 3 6-foot "sticks" of bologna ever delivery day. --That was a lot of bologna. But to this day, Reelfoot had the best bologna around. J.W. was always a gentleman and I can recall many stories that he would tell, ones that he picked up from dealing with customers all over the area. He would mark a paid invoice "P.D." When asked why he marked it "P.D." rather than "PAID," he replied, "P.D. stands for Past Due, Not Paid." He was always a joy to see. Lastly, J.W. loved those Trumann Wildcats. We Carter boys attended Nettleton High. We could never beat Trumann. J.W. said that it was because all the Trumann players ate only Reelfoot products. He was especially proud when a Trumann graduate played in college. There was a fellow named Holliman who played at THS and then at ASU. One would think it was J.W.'s son if you didn't know better. The Carter family sends deepest sympathies and condolences to your family and may you find comfort in knowing that J.W.'s life was lived to the fullest. Godspeed.
