Walter Perry SimsAugust 2, 1930 - March 6, 2020 Mr. Walter Perry Sims departed this life Friday, March 6, 2020 at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 4 days. He was born Saturday, August 2, 1930 in Lake City, AR and lived most of his lifetime in Trumann. He owned and operated Perry’s Barber Shop and was a barber for 55 years. Perry was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church in Trumann. He was a former member of Trumann Lions Club, Jaycees, City Council, and he coached Little League Baseball and Basketball. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edith Sims; one son, Nevis Sims; three brothers, two sisters, and his parents, H. C. & Ida Throgmartin Sims. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy McDaniel and Cindy Taber both of Trumann; one brother, Joe Sims of Searcy, AR; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Dobbins officiating. Burial will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Birdeye, AR. Pallbearers will be grandsons, J.R. McDaniel, John McDaniel, Dylan Kelso, and Gage Kelso.
