Henry Sullivan Blackwood, Sr.

February 1, 1939 - February 28, 2011

Mr. Henry Sullivan Blackwood Sr. was born on Wednesday, February 1, 1939 son of the late Vanas Howard and Geniva Owens Blackwood. He died on Monday, February 28, 2011 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, Ark., at the age of 72 years and 27 days. He was born on Island No. 35 in Reverie, Tenn., had lived in Trumann since 1979 and was formerly of California. Mr. Blackwood was an Assembly Line worker for Hytrol Conveyor Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Blackwood and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Blackwood of the home; two sons, Hank (Star)Blackwood Jr. of Marion, Ark., and Tony (Kim) Blackwood of Trumann; two daughters, Terry (Ricky) Whitaker and Ginny (John) McClaughlin both of Trumann; two brothers, Harold Blackwood of Tyronza, Ark. and Vanas Blackwood of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Doris Todd of Wynne, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann with Rev. Austin Missey officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery near Harrisburg, Ark. Active pallbearers will be Keith Vaughn, Jimmy Creecy Jr., Tony Blackwood Jr., Billy Poe, Adam York, and Michael Loggins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Benton Whitman and Jack Taylor. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann.
