Irene Leona Benson

Mrs. Irene Leona Benson was born on Saturday, April 4, 1925, daughter of the late Charlie and Dovey Knight Hollingsworth. Mrs. Benson died Monday, March 8, 2010 at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, AR, at the age of 84 years 11 months and 4 days. She was born in Bay, Ark., and had lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. She was retired from the Singer Company and Parker Hannifin and a member of the Melton Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Benson in 1982, one son, Jimmy Benson, one grandson, Chad Benson, one sister, Ora Lee Jackson, and her parents. Survivors include three sons, William C. Benson III and Ronnie L. Benson both of Trumann and Paul W. Benson of Memphis; two grandchildren, David Benson and Lee Benson and two great-grandchildren, Craig Benson and Reagan Benson. Funeral service will be Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home with Nolan Glover officiating. Burial will be private in Holly Springs Cemetery in Harrisburg, AR. Active pallbearers will be Gene Benson, Bobby Leon Benson, Bart Benson, Tony Holt, Greg Deford and Derick Gartman. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Gotfried and Kerry Bradsher.
